UAE Desert Challenge 2004:
The race is over & I managed to finish the rallye in 40th position. Just one place ahead of Marc
Coma, who struggled with a broken rear wheel. I picked
an 8 hour penalty for being to late on day 3, by 2
minutes. The Race Marshals didn't care, that this
happened, due to staying 2 1/2 hours with an injured
rider, who was taken off by helicopter. ... that's tuff
luck and is part of rallying it seems!!! Still, I'm
proud of having finished the rallye and the Team slogan
proofed again: Old Man Racing and lots of the strong
kid's didn't finish!

UAE Desert Challenge 2001:
Finally I managed to finish a full World Cup rallye. An
impressive start had pushed my into the top 7 riders,
but an unlucky crash and a broken clutch, have taken all
my hopes of a top 15 finish. At the end, I was happy,
just to finish the rally, handicapped by a broken clutch
and a dislocated collarbone, which I had picked up on a
fall on second day. Under this circumstances, I was
lucky having finished and was ranked in 30th position
overall, in a field of 100 starters. ...... more
Practice -
UAE --> Close to Heaven!!!:
To prepare for a rallye, you need to do a lot of
practice, as it is vital, to get used to the heat, the
sand and the open environment of th desert.
During the past 4 years, I have done 1000's of Km's on
different bikes in the desert. Bernd had
ridden from UAE to Germany on a BMW .... without a
partner. Frank had crossed the Sahara several times
before. Dick has done several rallies in the past and
Joe is more then seriouse, when going to the desert. This
training in UAE turned all our experience into a
nightmare and the desert mad us look, like newcomers!
No joke, .....this was close to heaven!...... more
